RISE UP FOR REFUGEES : 6TH MAY 2022

We raised money for brilliant refugee supporters GARAS, and grassroots initiative Global Black Coalition with a multi-layered event which shows how a community comes together with a shared passion for action.

SAR and the wider community are on a mission to make sure that our generous support towards people needing refuge extends to those who are marginalised and face further discrimination. We want to show that as a community we care about those who aren't shown in the media, but still deserve support.

Stroud Against Racism have recently organised two fundraising events in aid of refugees and asylum seekers, specifically those who are further marginalised and discriminated against.

One took place in March where the brilliant Stroud Red Band played with gusto and the people of Stroud emptied their pockets, and wallets!!

Then on May 6th we held a fundraising evening of amazing entertainment from local artists at Stroud Brewery. Many local businesses contributed with incredible prizes for an auction and a raffle. In March Stroud Red Band played for the fundraiser in town!

The total money raised from the two events was £3,567.25!

So a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who contributed what they could. None of this could have happened with each and every one of you.

All proceeds go to GARAS and Global Black Coalition - a coalition of several organisations across the globe, raising funds to support Black people with relocation costs and other necessities. Half of the money from the Red Band event is also going to Black Foreigners Ukraine.

Originally we were planning to support BW4BL but they have since closed their operations, and recommended GBC as another excellent organisation to support.
