Herbs in Pots

Can I thank you for stopping?
Your time was precious to me
on the street
when you never
walked passed me
and you looked pained
at my pain.

I know words didn’t come
enough from me
they are so hard to find

I looked at your offered empathy
in the half nervous smile
I know it takes courage
others were calling your phone
in SMS ‘busy right now’ reply
you gave stopwatch time
from your empathy clock.

I want to say how nice
it was to see you
you finally got your shopping!

I know how hard it is to get out
I was glad I stopped the rolling orange
so hard two meter helping
in the ways we would.

I’d have walked with you if you’d asked
I fear that neighbours have been curt
this support you give may have cost.

It’s been nice to talk
even with emptiness
I hope you read my eyes
I already saw yours.

So please accept this thank you card
please forgive yourself and the past
I’m here at the distanced community fete
I’m sorry if I woke you too
I waited at the gate by the path
to walk in hope and unity.

I hope we can speak again maybe when you feel stronger.
They had herbs in pots.

Best regards,

Your Black neighbour
